New Link

Thank you, MariLuz, for this link. Look under the helpful links English. She found a great site that has tons of activities to help get students ready for Kindergarten. Thanks again, MariLuz!

This is the link on the right side titled "Getting Ready for Kindergarten":

Aaaaawesome website!!!

I received a book that my daughter made at her school and thought it was really cool. Luckily the website was posted on the book pages so I went to the website. It's called Making Learning Fun. They have tons of thematic units with materials already made and ready to print out for - wait for it - FREE!!!! So I thought I would include the link for you guys. I'm posting the link here in the post, but will also put it under the "Helpful Links" on the side bar.

Let me know what you think.

New link!!

If you look to the right, you will see the link to the ABC environmental print book that Maria sent out this week. If you have problems opening the link, let me know.

Also, I will be posting some links to alphabet books that Mrs. Flanagan is sending me. They are in Spanish right now, but I am working on an English version. Once they are scanned into the computer I can upload them here in a posting. You should be able to just click on the link and then print what you need. Thank you to Mrs. Flanagan for sharing with us. Look for the books soon.

How is it going?

So we have almost survived two weeks of school. Labor Day weekend is coming up - yeah!!!! I don't know about you, but this Labor Day really feels like a deserved break from laboring in the classroom. Whether we have high numbers, are divided between schools, small classrooms, not enough supplies, kids escaping from the room, not enough space or any of the other craziness of the start of school I know we all are doing the best we can for each one of our students. I just wanted to wish everyone a restful and safe holiday weekend. Hopefully the break will refresh you and rejuvenate you - at least until the next break, right? :)

I also had an idea for a page within the blog and wanted to know what you think. I was going to create a page just for lesson ideas, materials and resources. Right now, I don't know if you can directly post a link to a lesson document or a picture. If not, email it to me at either jennifer_cardenas@roundrockisd.org or jrcardenas06@marykay.com, and I will put it up on the page. I came across some great resources over the summer that are full of ideas that I can't wait to use and would love to share them. Let me know what you think about the page. I am going to post a link to the CIRCLE letter wall pictures that I made last year for an example, but please feel free to use it however you want. (The document is formatted to print on printable index cards, but you can just print it on regular paper.)

Have a great weekend and break and look for the new page on the blog.

Meet the Teacher night

What are you doing for Meet the Teacher night? I heard some great ideas at the meeting yesterday, but they were all different. Does anyone care to share what they do? What handouts do you have? What sign-ins/ups? What do you do with supplies?

You can respond to this post by clicking "Comments" at the end of the post. Type in your comments and ideas. Click "Post Comment". You will be asked to select a profile. Click on the drop down arrow and select a profile. If you have gmail, select the "Google Account" option and sign in with your Google account email and password. After you click "Post Comment" you will have to type in a word verification. This is to protect our blog from unwanted spam blogs. If you do not have a Google account, I can help you create one. I'm not sure how to post with the other profiles. I am looking in to that. Also, I am going to change some of the security options for posting. Hopefully, this will make it easier to post, but still keep the integrity of the blog.

If you have questions, email me at jennifer_cardenas@roundrockisd.org.

Scholastic Curriculum Link

Here is the link to the Scholastic website about the new Big Day for Pre-K curriculum we talked about at the meeting today. It doesn't give you access to examples of the centers, for example, but does briefly discuss the 5 essential elements for success that the program is based on. There is the option to sign up for more information, but I don't know exactly what that entails.

Scholastic Big Day for Pre-K

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Hello to everyone!

This blog is still a work in progress, but it is my hope that this will be a valuable resource for all of the Pre-K teachers in Round Rock. On this blog you will be able to post lesson plan ideas, links to your favorite websites, materials you have made for use in your own classroom, pictures, and lots more. This is a blog for us to use to communicate and share with each other. Please feel free to post comments, suggestions, etc. to improve the blog. I hope everyone has a great year!
